| JSM leaders call on POJK refugees, express solidarity | | | early times report Jammu, Dec 16: President Jammu State Morcha (JSM) Prof. Virender Gupta along with office bearers of Jammu State Morcha called on the POJK refugees at Bakshinagar and discussed their problems related to the grant of compensation in lieu of their forced migration in 1947. Prof Gupta and other JSM leaders while expressing anguish on the matter that Jammu and Kashmir Government and that of Union of India are once again trying to play the card of settlement of all the claims of the POJK displaced persons as the parliamentary elections and state elections are approaching both the governments again raised the hopes of the DPs/ refugees by giving the promise of settling their issues once for all. JSM further hopes that this time Governments do not intend to deceive them and their demands be settled before the parliamentary elections. The main issues of the 1947, 1965 and 1971 DPs and demanded that list of the registered 1947 refugees be computerized and given wide publicity in specified Government Offices and even on the specially created Website so that left over genuine POK displaced person may pursue their case. Besides this JSM demanded left over claims of immoveable property of about 10,000 families of 1947 refugees to be registered, unconditional compensation to DPs and condition of less than Rs 300/- as family income at the time of displacement should be removed. Other demands discussed in the meeting included claims with regard to the compensation of the properties left behind by the DPs and their displacement because of aggression by Pakistan be immediately settled. Rs 50 lakh (which approx. amounts to about Rs 25000 in 1947) be paid to each Displaced family of POJK., issuance of Identity cards in favour of DPs that shall help them in processing PRC and other concerning matters, Reservation in jobs and in the matter of admission to the academic and professional Institutions be made for the DPs and etc. They also demanded 8 out of 24 Assembly seats in the J&K State Legislature reserved for the Pakistan occupied part of Jammu & Kashmir State to be provided to the POK DPs of 1947.
