| Random searchs of vehicles, frisking of pedestrains in Srinagar | | | Srinagar, Dec 25 : Security forces and state police again coducted random searches of vehicles and frisking of pedestrain in different parts of the city following a fresh alert that militants will try to sneak into city from outskirts. The alert has been issued following recent militant attacks at Chadoora and Nowgam bypass in which two officers of CRPF and Police besides a civilian were killed and several other personnel were injured this month. Inspector General of Police, Kashmir, said that security measures have already been tightened on bypass and other areas to foil any similar militant attack in future. The personnel of Road Opening Party (ROP), guarding the highway and bypass, were provided sand bunkers on the roadside to protect them from any militant attack. Official sources said an encounter took place at Ichgam in the central Kashmir district of Budgam, where militants had managed to give slip to security forces under the cover of darkness. There are reports that militants will sneak into city therefore the security was further intensified. Additional security forces and state police personnel, wearing bullet proof jackets and holding automatic weapons, were seen deployed in the city, particularly on Srinagar-Airport road. Vehicles, particularly three wheelers and load carriers, were being properly searched near police station Shergari on the airport road. Passengers and others, travelling in the vehicles, were being properly frisked and their identity cards checked before allowing them to go. Similar random searches and frisking were being conducted at other places in the city, including civil lines. Sources said that there is no militant in the city. However, some militants are infiltrating into city from outskirts and later leave for their hideouts after carrying out attack here. |
