| EO threatens applicant for seeking beneficiary list | | VDA denies Information under RTI | | Saahil Suhail
Anantnag, Dec 25: Besides denying information under Right to Information Act, Verinag Development Authority's (VDA) executive officer has allegedly threatened the applicant of dire consequences if he persisted for the same. Hilal Ahmad, A resident of Dooru Anantnag, who filed an application under RTI act seeking information regarding various developmental workers carried out by the development authority in the area, instead of receiving information was threatened by the executive officer of the said developmental authority. Hilal on 7 July 2013 filed an application through RTI to executive Officer VDA and requested them to deliver a list of persons who have been benefited under paying guest scheme as according to the applicant, development authority under political pressure benefited only political workers that too twice and thrice. The applicant in his submission had also sought list of development workers carried out by the developmental authority from 2011 to June 2013. The applicant has also sought Xerox copies of tenders published in leading daily as applicant alleges that developmental workers were carried out without issuing tenders or without publishing them in local dailies. While as he also demanded a list of expenditure with Xerox copies of bills and receipts Even though, The Jammu & Kashmir Right to Information Act, 2009 the developmental authority in a sheer violation of the Act denied the information and also threatened the applicant of dire consequences. "Firstly I want to know why they officer threatened me of dire consequences and secondly after the passage of at least six months why he failed to deliver information. It is now clear that Verinag Development Authority's executive officer under political patronage is hiding scandals which they have in different schemes." Hilal Ahmad told Early Times, adding once when he visited the officer, he told me that I will provide the information whose Photostat copying may cost you thirty thousand. When contacted, VDA executive officer denied the allegations and said that he was busy with the concerned minister during the period of time. He also said that designated officer tried his best to locate the record but couldn't it as it is missing. He assured the he will inquire in the morning from the said officer who assigned to provide the information to applicant. |
