| Minor killed, two injured in accidental grenade blast | | | Early Times Report
Rajouri, Dec 25: A 12 years old boy was killed and two other injured when they were fiddling with an abandoned grenade in highly protected ward number 5 in the afternoon today. One of the injured Kapil alias Kalu s/o Kikkar Singh said that the grenade was kept on the roof of a water source where they had gone to collect water and was picked up by the deceased identified as Gourav Singh s/o Jagdish Singh. He added that while they were on way to their houses the grenade fell from the hand of the deceased and exploded. Immediately after the blast people from nearby houses rushed to the spot and informed the police and also shifted the injured to the hospital. "The boys who were playing in the area found an abandoned grenade lying on the road side and started fiddling with it and it exploded. One boy was killed on the spot while other two received splinter injuries" Mubassar Latifi, district SP said. He added that it is too premature to divulge any detail about the make of the geanade and whether it belonged to army or any militant organization. "It would only be possible after detailed investigation to give details about the presence in the area" said SP. Sources added that being a holiday today the children were playing in the afternoon on the request of Kapil’s mother they followed her to a water sources near their house. The boys found the grenade near the water point and Gourav picked it and started playing with it. As he was at some distance from other two while on way back to home it fell down from his hand and in the blast he died on the spot while other two injured splinter injuries. Aiaz Sheikh , DSP operations, who is known for his honesty and dedication towards duty and had solved many cases including of blind murders in the past, have started the investigation and additional Deputy Commissioner, SA Mughal has announced Rs 40000 as immediate help to the deceased family and Rs10000 in favor of the injured and also directed the health authorities to provide free treatment to the injured. |
