Javaid Naikoo Srinagar, Dec 28 : As snow snapped Ladakh ties with rest of the world, government failures to stock supplies has left the people high and dry. Snow, shill and road blockade is nothing new for people of this part of the world, however 40% cut in supply of essential commodities which include Rice, flour and Kerosene is making it very difficult for people this winter. A village head Muhammad Javaid of Leh district said that in Hilly areas of Leh District like Nubra and Changtang villages where heavy snowfall followed by sub-zero temperature brought life to a standstill, shortage of ration has subjected people to inconvenience. Normally the concerned department would give 160 litres of kerosene for one season per family, however this year only 120 litres were given. Likewise last year Ech family received 2 k.g sugar per head per family while as this year only 3 kgs per family have been given. he said the officials distribute ration as per the 2001 census which causes the problem. According to the chief executive councilor of Ladakh autonomous hill development council (LAHDC) of Kargil District, Haji Asgar Ali Karbalai many areas of Kargil district like rest of many far flung villages of whole Ladakh division which include Kargil block, TSG block and two other blocks are suffering due to shortage of essential commodities like sugar and kerosene. People of these areas demand that government must buy essential commodities like Sugar, flour and rice as well from the local market and distribute among the people on subsidized rates, besides chopper service must be started from different parts of Ladakh division to Srinagar so that students and people who need specialized medical care can be shifted from many areas of Ladakh to Srinagar and Jammu as well. |
