Jammu, Dec 28: To commemorate its Foundation Day of the 'Congress', the J&K Pradesh Congress Party Congress (JKPCC) organized functions across the state and main function was held at party at party head quarters at Jammu. Prominent leaders of the party including ministers, MP, Legislators and functionaries of PCC, DCC, Blocks and frontal organizations participated in this function. AICC Secretary I/C J&K Affairs Mainul Haque-MLA who attended the celebrations as the Chief Guest, while Senior Vice President Dharam Pal Sharma, Ex-MP presided over the function. Addressing the gathering, AICC Secretary Mainul Haque threw light on the history of Congress party and its contribution and sacrifices of the freedom of the country and achievements towards nation building in the post-independent period. "It was on this day in 1885, the Congress was founded and during its 128 years of the service to the nation, the Congress party remained committed to the principle of secularism and socialism and for strengthening the unity and integrity of the nation, I/C J&K Affairs Mainul Haque-MLA said and added, "it was the Congress party under whose banner the entire countrymen unitedly fought against the British rulers for the freedom of the country." He said, "In post independence scenario there were great challenges before the nation and the able leadership provided by the Congress India today has emerged as a great power and leader in various fields. India is recognized in the World as a messenger of peace, a vibrant democracy." "It is because of the principles, policies and the programmes framed by the Congress party and incorporated in the Constitution of Independent India which withstood the test of the time and the Country's march on the path of peace and progress is unabated and presently under the leadership of Congress party led by UPA Chairperson Smt. Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, he added. Speaking on the occasion the senior leaders of the party referred to the historical role of the Congress party in the state and said that it is the sole party which can ensure equitable and balanced treatment to all three regions of the state and meet the challenge posed by the communal and divisive forces. "The Congress party will emerge stronger in the next assembly elections in all three regions and the party workers must carry out the programmes and achievement of the UPA government to the masses more vigorously in the wake of coming elections.
