| PIO at helm of affairs befools over RTI query | | Let lawlessness continue this session: Kiran Bakshi | | K Koushal
Jammu, Jan 10 : "Let the lawlessness continue this session and wait for the next session to sort out the issue", was the reply of the principal GCW Gandhi Nagar, Kiran Bakshi over a question regarding failure of college administration over retendering/re-advertising college canteen contracts. Pertinently, an RTI was filed by an RTI activist namely Harpreet Singh before the PIO, Government College for Women, Gandhi Nagar for some information under the Act and among the questions one question was about the failure of college authorities regarding retendering/re-advertising of the college canteen contract over the which the PIO replied in a casual way and said that the security and safety of female students is the prime concern of a girl's institution and as guardians to girls from diverse background utmost precautions are exercised to thwart the entry of unscrupulous elements and avoid exposing our girls to precarious predicament. In an attempt to demolish the sanctity of RTI Act, the PIO at the helm of affairs in Government College for Women, Gandhi Nagar Jammu blatantly befooled an RTI activist and mocked the institution with the reply, he provided to the activist. "So as per past practice and unanimous decision taken by the college canteen committee, the service of a reputed and reliable contractor with flawless experience of service at a women institution are hired without compromising on quality, quantity and rates which are at par with other colleges", the reply to RTI query said. One could easily understand from the reply that the college canteen committee as well as the college administration has left no opportunity to monopolize the canteen and the institution being at the helm of affairs. Principal of the college, Kiran Bakshi when contacted by Early Times replied in a strange way and said, "In the next session, we will go for retendering". If the answer of the principal would be considered it concludes as- "Let the lawlessness continue this session and wait for the next session to sort out the issue". Minister for Higher Education Department, Mohammad Akbar lone said "It is total lawlessness and tomorrow I will issue instructions to all principals of the colleges to follow legal procedure". |
