Early Times Report
JAMMU, Jan 10: Despite removing the Lal Batti (Red Beacon) from his vehicle, the Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah is yet to come out of the VVIP culture as his movement on Jammu roads still irks people.
Omar tried to follow the directions of Supreme Court by removing the red light from the vehicles but it couldn't bring any relief for the common people on roads as they are being stopped whenever the Chief Minister's cavalcade is on the move.
Police is deployed in huge numbers on the roads to provide security and safe passage to the Chief Minister, which sometimes causes inconvenience to the general public.
"Omar still has many things to do on ground to do away with the VIP culture which include ensuring smooth passage of traffic, putting end to siren and meeting common people on regular intervals," said Pardeep Singh, a resident of R S Pura who was waiting for CM's cavalcade to move on the national highway near Government College for Women Gandhinagar, where traffic was stopped for smooth passage of the Chief Minister.
On Friday when the CM's cavalcade was moving to airport from his residence at Residency Road, traffic movement was stopped and traffic police along police authorities were guarding the road throughout.
"There is a School at Residency Road, a famous market is there, they all have to stop 10 minutes before the movement of Chief Minister, he should learn some lesson from Arvind Kejriwal," said Mohammad Arif resident of Gujjar Nagar.
More than 10 vehicles accompany Omar's cavalcade which include security and other types of vehicles. The speed of these vehicles remains on higher side due to which pedestrians even can't cross the road at that point of time.
"We were hoping that Omar may shun this VIP culture as he was young and could have understood the need of common people," Arif added.
