| SHC expresses concern over non availability of life saving drugs | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Jan 10: Criticizing the state government for its non serious attitude towards the children suffering from a life-threatening disease of Hemophilia, Society for Hemophilia Care (SHC) expressed serious concern over the non availability of life saving medicines called 'Factors' in Government Medical College (GMC), Srinagar for last more than 4 months. As per press releases, member of SHC said that children very young are bleeding quite often, living with terrible pain and suffering like silent and helpless orphans with no authority listening to them. Some have been transfused contaminated blood components like FFP/Cryo and are now infected with HCV and HBV as well. Recently a hemophiliac has been diagnosed as having been infected with HIV also. He has received FFP/Cryo several times as no Factors are available. The J & K Govt is perhaps sleeping and turning deaf ears to their miserable conditions, they informed. They also said Govt is also violating the orders of the High Court of J & K as well. An application for contempt of Court perhaps is the only alternative left with the suffering community. Vijay Kaul, Executive Director, Society for Hemophilia Care , New Delhi met the Pr. Secretary yesterday but no confirmed assurance was given to him. It seems the immediate relief to such people is still miles away. Perhaps they are waiting for some deaths to happen or some more children getting affected with HIV due to transfusion of contaminated blood/plasma/Cryo. He said Hemophilia is a genetic bleeding disorder, affects about 3000 families in J & K. where the bleeding with or without reason takes place mostly in the body joints. The bleeding also takes place inside brain, Gl Tract and through nose. If such children are provided timely treatment they can lead a near normal life. |
