| Jat community raises demand of OBC status | | | Early Times Report Samba, Jan 10: Thousands of members of Jats community today held protest at Tehsil Samba, in support of their demand of granting OBC status. The protest was led by Choudhary Kamal Singh President Jat Kalyan Sabha which is spearheading the agitation for the last eight years. The community is agitating continuously after observing New Year day as the black day at Press Club Jammu. He said that the Jat community used to till the land to feed their families and surplus grains used to be sold to carry out other livelihood activities. Due to repeated division of land in the past few generations, the land per family has deceased just for housing purpose only. The community children have been left without work. He further informed that the community has suffered a lot as the area in which 75 % of the community inhabiting was handed over to Pakistan partly in 1947, 1965 and 1971. The helpless community after migration settled along Indo/Pak Border and Actual Line of Control from Kathua (Doulian Jattan) to Baramulla (Uri). Kamal Singh lashed at the leadership of coalition Government for not granting the OBC status when it is their fundamental right as they are socially and educationally backward and our constitution fully protects the rights of weaker section of the Society. |
