early times report Srinagar, Jan 10: Militants on Friday gave slip to a joint party of Army and Special Operations Group (SOG) of police after a brief encounter at Marble, Sopore in north Kashmir's Baramulla district. Sources said that acting on information regarding the presence of some militants, Army's 27 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) and Special Operations Group of police cordoned off Chirhar forest area of Marble in Sopore today morning and started combing operation to flush out the suspected militants. As the team started search operations, the militants hiding in the forest area opened several shots at them before fleeing. Though the forces intensified the searches in the area, the militants, sources said, have managed to escape. Later in the day, army and SOG busted the militant hideout in the forest area and recovered large quantity of eatable items. The search operation was in progress when the last reports came in. On January 7, a police officer was killed and three other cops sustained serious bullet injuries when militants attacked a joint team of Special Operation Group (SOG) of police and army in Chankhan area of Sopore. |
