Jammu, Jan 16: Admitting militancy is not completely wiped out from the state, Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police (DGP) Ashok Prasad said that now militants have changed their strategy and are targeting security forces instead of civil populace. "Situation in 2014 is still challenging as was in 1990 when the militancy was at its peak", he said while speaking to the media persons at the sidelines of the flagging off a motorcycle rally as an activity of traffic awareness week here on Thursday. "Their (militants) attacks are no longer affecting the public as they have changed their strategy and are targeting police and security forces," DGP Ashok Prasad said while adding, "In view of their changed strategy, militants target the security forces with an aim to disturb peace in the valley, to demoralize security forces and provoke them to react after every attack but a well-planned strategy has been chalked out to thwart militants' attempts to target security forces to counter the new game plan of militants. He said, 'Militants are trying to create sensation by attacking police and security forces but we are trying our best to curb their movement and attacks." "Yes, challenges are there and they (challenges) have not gone down, DGP said, adding, "problem is not (internal) within the country but it comes from elsewhere (outside) and much of the militancy is attuned from outside the country." At the same time, he said, "We are all prepared to take on them any time amid the apprehensions of escalations of violence after the withdrawal of US forces from Afghanistan. Meantime replying a query about infiltration from International Border (IB), he said that during his recent visit to Samba and Kathua district reviewed the security scenario and measured to plug the dodgy spots from where such attempts could be anticipated.' Earlier while flagging of traffic awareness rally DGP Prasad said that road accidents have become a major concern for which people's awareness is mandatory to avoid the accidents, besides ensuring smooth flow of traffic on the roads. Discussing different factors of road accidents, the DGP emphasized for strict adherence of traffic rules by the road users and the common masses as well. He said that coordination among different stockholders is also mandatory to achieve the requisite goal. Director General of Police (DGP), Ashok Prasad, was accompanied by various senior officers including ADGsP, P. L. Gupta, Dilbag Singh and Transport Commissioner, Sourabh Baghat. Earlier, the DIG Traffic Jammu, Shafakat Ali Watali, threw light on different activities being organized during the road safety week. After formal flagging off rally consisting of more than 80 motor cyclists of 'JKP Dare Devil Team' and local motor cyclists passed through various main city localities sending a message about the road safety measures among the people and then culminated at Gulshan Ground. Among others, the function was attended by IGsP, Arun Kumar and Muneer Ahmed Khan, DIsGP, Sham lal Sharma Mubarak Ahmed Ganai and Shakeel Ahmed Beig, SSP, Jammu, Atul Goel, SP Traffic Pawan Parihar, AIG Welfare (PHQ), Rajeshwar Singh, senior citizens and other police and civil officers. |
