| JU official manages call details of female professor, police likely to act | | Beware, Mobile companies cheat you! | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Jan 16: If what an Assistant Registrar of Jammu University has claimed is proven right, police would be constrained to lodge an FIR against him and initiate thorough probe against the mobile company which provided him call details of a female University professor. Though Jammu police is habitual of acting late and in certain, even preferring inaction, sources assert that in this case of barging into the privacy of a University professor, action is likely to be initiated within minutes of the professor lodging complaint with the police. Sources said that the accused is Assistant Registrar Khem Pal Singh of the accounts section. They added that Singh not only managed to obtain call details of Prof. Meena Sharma, who is one of the local secretaries of the forthcoming Indian Science Congress but even asked her to explain reasons for claiming bill amounting to Rs. 2000 for the mobile number she has been using. Sources maintained that Kham Pal managed call details and then, asked the Professor to explain whom she had been calling from the official number which she had got from the University. Acting as 'James Bond' of Jammu University, sources said that Khem Pal did not pass the mobile bill of the concerned professor and kept asking her to explain reasons for making so many calls from the official mobile number. They added that the call details issue reached the Joint Registrar (Finance). Even he seemingly preferred not to take the over-enthusiastic Assistant Registrar to task for asking the Professor about the calls made from the official mobile number. When the university asked Khem Pal to explain his position, sources said that he referred to call details and said that the concerned Professor had been using the mobile for making personnel calls. However, what he did not explain was that how he managed to get call details from the mobile company when the same is crime and the only party that can have the call details is either the owner or the security agencies or in grave cases, officials of various institutions. Even the owner as well as the security agencies have to submit a detailed application explaining reasons for seeking call details. Even police officials are amazed how Khem Pal is neither owner of the mobile number nor a person from security agencies, got call details and produced the same before the officials of Jammu University. They maintain that the entire issue needs to be investigated and it would be of great interest to see how an official of JU got call records when even they cannot get them without making an official request at the highest level. Meanwhile, an infuriated Prof. Meena Sharma took up the issue with Vice- Chancellor Prof Mohan Paul Singh Isher and requested her that as guardian of the University, it is his duty to get an FIR registered against the said Assistant Registrar besides probing the links of Khem Pal. However, sources said that VC acted Judge and reprimanded Khem Pal Singh and this ended the issue then and there. |
