| 6 cops among 8 injured during protest against Railway Deptt | | | Udhampur, Jan 16: Eight people including six cops were injured when police and locals entered in melee when protestors blocked usual traffic on National Highway 2A-Dhar Road over three hours at Dugduba Basti against the railway department after a young boy of locality was run over by a Railway Engine last day at near Roun Domal Sattani Village on Wednesday. The boy identified as Sohan Lal (18) S/O Mani Ram was knocked to death by a Railway engine on Wednesday. Protestors amid sloganeering against Railway authorities blamed that concerned authorities have turned deaf ear to the demand foot Bridge over the Railway Track and necessary fencing along the Railway Track near populated areas. According to the eyewitness agitated protestors blocked the National Highway 2A-Dhar Road for vehicular Movement for 11:30 AM to 2:30 PM. On receiving the information of blockade of road to traffic, the police team rushed to the spot. During the police intervention some protestors resorted to stone pelting following which police swung into action and used mild force to resume the Traffic on Dhar Road, Udhampur. Reports said 6 police personnel including SHO Udhampur Deepak Jasrotea, SI Vikram, HC Karan Singh, Constable Mohd Farooq, Constable Mohd Ramzan and SPO Sanjay Kumar while two women namely Laxmi Devi w/o Bittu and Babli devi w/o Om Prkash both the resident of Satyani were injured in the melee. Meanwhile ADC Udhampur Vikash Sharma and SSP Udhampur Mohd Suleman Choudhary also have rushed to the spot and pacified the protestors. |
