NEW DELHI, Jan 16: Aam Aadmi Party was today grappling with open rebellion as its MLA Vinod Kumar Binny mounted a shrill attack on Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal by calling him a "dictator" and accused his government of cheating people, prompting the party to threaten disciplinary action against the legislator.
The Laxmi Nagar MLA, who was sulking after being left out of the Cabinet last month, addressed a press conference where he slammed the AAP leadership on a range of issues and alleged that all decisions in the party are taken in closed rooms by four-five people.
"You (Kejriwal) have become a dictator. Stop fooling the people of Delhi. All decisions in the party are taken in closed rooms by four-five people. Arvind gets angry if people express any difference. If anyone speaks against him, he starts shouting," Binny, a former Congressman, said.
He accused the AAP government of "cheating" Delhiites on a range of issues including power and water and said the party was deviating from its ideologies and promises.
"They are using policy of use and throw. First, they have used Anna Hazare and Kiran Bedi and still many people in the party are being exploited," he said.
AAP promptly refuted the allegations levelled by Binny and said disciplinary action would be initiated against the legislator for levelling "baseless accusations".
Senior AAP leader Yogendra Yadav said the MLA was reading "someone else's script" and alleged that he had come under influence of BJP. Yadav said the MLA levelled the allegations as he was denied a ministerial berth last month and also a Lok Sabha ticket.
"The party's Political Affairs Committee will initiate disciplinary action against Binny and accordingly a show cause notice will be issued to him," Yadav said, adding party members could have different opinions but indiscipline would not be tolerated.
Yadav said if the MLA had grievances, then he could have ventilated them in the party forum and not in the media.
"Today when Binny was speaking, it seemed that he was reading a script given to him by someone else. He has raised all those issue which the Leader of the Opposition Harsh Vardhan has been raising for the past few days," he said.
The MLA said no probe has been initiated against Sheila Dikshit over corruption allegations since Kejriwal shares a "close friendship" with Congress MP Sandeep Dikshit.
Binny said though the party during the election campaign had promised to provide 700 litres of free water daily to each household, the government "very cleverly" announced that those exceeding the limit will have to pay for the full amount.
On the electricity front, Binny said that the government "defrauded" the people of Delhi as the party had promised to halve the bills after coming to power.
"The government said subsidy will be given to those whose monthly consumption does not exceed 400 units. This is totally unacceptable. The party has cheated the people of Delhi," he said.
The MLA said he will go on a hunger strike at Jantar Mantar if the promises made to people during the election campaign are not fulfilled by January 27.
He also attacked the Ministers of the Delhi government, saying all of them have taken big cars with VIP registration numbers.
Referring to the alleged gangrape of a Danish woman, he said had another party been in power, then AAP would have held massive protests in the city to target the government of the day.
The MLA also attacked the leadership for taking support of the Congress to form the government.
The MLA also questioned the process for ticket distribution for the Lok Sabha polls and alleged that there was no transparency in it.
Rubbishing the MLA's criticism, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had yesterday said that Binny had come to him for ministership and later he wanted to contest the Lok Sabha polls.
Binny also attacked the AAP leadership for failing to bring the Jan Lokpal Bill within 14 days of coming to power as promised.
"Remaining in power has become their sole motto now. We have not come here to make someone a chief minister," Binny said.
He also questioned why no probe is being initiated into allegations of corruption during the Congress regime.
"During election campaigning, Kejriwal had termed former Chief Minister and other ministers corrupt and said he had evidence against them. But during the first session of Delhi Assembly, he was seen asking Harsh Vardhan to give proof. How can he say Sheila Dikshit and her ministers were corrupt when he has no proofs? It proves he was lying," he said. |
