Cold conditions continue in Kashmir Valley

Srinagar, Jan 17: Cold wave continued in Kashmir as the minimum temperatures across the Valley stayed below the freezing point with the mercury dropping by several degrees in most places.
Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, recorded a low of minus 2.4 degrees Celsius, over three degrees down from the previous night's minimum of 1.0 degrees Celsius, a MeT Department official here said.
The mercury settled at minus 5.5 degrees Celsius in Qazigund, the gateway town to Kashmir Valley, a decrease of over five degrees as compared to the previous night's minus 0.1 degree Celsius.
Kupwara, in north Kashmir, registered a low of minus 2.6 degrees Celsius, over one degree down from the previous night's minus 1.0 degrees Celsius, the official said.
the night temperature in south Kashmir's Kokernag also went down by three degrees from minus 0.4 degrees Celsius the previous night to settle at a low of minus 2.6 degrees Celsius. Pahalgam hill resort, in south Kashmir, recorded a low of minus 8.8 degrees Celsius as compared to minus 10.4 degrees Celsius the previous night.
