Early Times Report
JAMMU, Jan 17: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has started showing signs of cozying up with the BJP's Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi.
Omar who had been mocking at the Modi has today openly exhibited his appreciation for Modi.
Commenting about Cong leader Mani Shankar Aiyers' remark that a chai wallah can't become Prime Minister, Omar writing on twitter said: "Modi has a lot of negatives but his humble origins are a positive some of us can't claim. We aren't helping our campaign by mocking him."
It was first clear sign of mending fences with the BJP's Prime Ministerial candidate, who according to most poll survey is likely to head the nation.
Omar has though been sounding critical of Modi at public platforms, had also indicated his likeness for the Modi, mainly because of the political compulsion.
The Chief Minister had repeatedly said that while it can be disputed that there is a Modi wave but he (Modi) had galvanized the party.
The same Omar had after the results, in a subtle manner criticizing Cong, has said small strength of the crowd at public rally is a cause of worry. He was hinting at the small audience in the rallies attended by Rahul Gandhi in comparison to huge response generated by Modi at his public rallies.
Omar, like true chameleon of NC leadership, is opening channels of communications with Modi, as he knows that this man has the possibility and potential of being the Prime Minister. NC had always cultivated relation with the person and party at the Delhi to keep itself in their good books for remaining in the power.
Omar Abdullah continued to remain Minister in NDA Government when riots had taken place. He had only said that the then Prime Minister AB Vajpayee refused to accept his resignation. However, critics says if he had strength and conviction no body could have forced him to remain in office.
Omar knows that things will change after the Parliamentary elections and it would be crucial as State elections are to be held latter. He is thus while openly siding with the Rahul, and now knowing that he would not be the point person of the party, has shrewdly started changing course, and dropping signals that he is not personally opposed to Modi.
