| Rajouri: Where land grabbers flourish | | ‘49000 Kanal land under illegal occupation’ | | early times report Rajouri, Jan 17: Rajouri district tops the list of governemnt land encraochers in the J&K State. This information was provided by the revenue department under Right to Information (RTI) Act. The revenue department response established that about 49000 kanal of governemnt land is under the illegal occupation of land mafia. Recently some land grabbers start construction work near Chief Education Officer (CEO) office on the land which belong to education department and the land was reportedly encroached by them with the nexus of revenue officials. Ch Lal Hussain, CEO took up the matter with DIG police & deputy commissioner and work was stopped by the police. After the work was stopped members of Social Justice ,NGO approached the revenue department and sought information of the land record of education complex under RTI Act. "But the revenue officials (Patwaris) denied the information despite the fact that we have filed 1st appeal before the District Development Commissioner (DDC) who had directed the patwaris to provide the information " said Shahnawaz Hussain, member Social Justice. Members of Social Justice NGO have alleged that land mafia operating in Rajouri district have encroached thousand acres of government land in nexus with in-service and retired revenue, municipal officials, politicians, social activists. SK Mughal ,president Social Justice has said that as per information gathered under RTI act and provided by the State Revenue department more than 49000 acres of government land is under the illegal occupation of land mafia. "With this information Rajouri district tops the list of 22 districts in the state where the encroachers have illegal occupation on the government land" said SK Mughal. Shahnawaz Hussain said that few days ago an illegal construction was started on the land of education department in the heart of the old city which was stopped by the police after acomplaint lodged by Ch Lal Hussain , chief education officer (CEO). CEO said that he had approached the DDC and revenue officials for the demarcation of the land belong to education department and till then no construction would be allowed . Shahnawaz said that in 1972 the then chief minister Shiakh Mohd Abdullaha had sanctioned 40 kanals of governemnt land for the construction of education complex. "In 2013 , as per revenue record , the land under occupation of the education department is just 20 kanals" said Shanwaz. He added after 1972 offices of CEO, ZEO, TEO, two middle schools and a mini stadium were constructed on some portion of this 40 kanal land and the remaining land remained vacant (unattended/unfenced) . Since 1972 about 20 kanal land of the education complex has been encroached by the people including some revenue officials by tempering the official records,he added. In this connection a deputition of Social Justice, NGO was also met with Saleem Malik , ADC in the month of December and apprised him about the encroachment of the education department. ADC had issued instruction to the tehsildar for the demarcation of the education department land .But till today nothng has been done in this maatter and moreover, Patwaris have also refused to provided the revenue record of this (40) kanal) land" said Shanawaz. |
