Jammu, Jan 17: Residents of Ward No 58, Roop Nagar Digiana staged a protest demonstration against the Power Development Department (PDD) for its pooping approach which resulted the area plunged into darkness for past over two days. Hundreds of people including women, children and even old took to streets accusing the PDD of inordinate delay in repairing a damaged transformer there and thus causing inconvenience to the locals. They said since the day of installation of the transformer, it has been frequently developing snags due to overloading. "We have been demanding replacement of damaged transformer in the locality to overcome the crisis. Just few weeks back same transformer was damaged and it took PDD seven days to replace it, but unfortunately on the name of new transformer they installed old one repaired," said a resident of the area adding that repaired transformers are just for hoodwinking people. They said the PDD has failed to repair the old transformer in the area causing immense inconvenience to them. "Inaction of the PDD has forced us to take to streets. We have many times tried to contact concerned Engineer but our pleas met with deaf ears," they said. When contacted JE Digiana, Gurmeet Singh briefly said I can't replace it by tomorrow as it is a time consuming process. 'As soon as it gets repaired it will be replaced, he said |
