Srinagar, Jan 17: Dissatisfied with what he called a 'poor performance' of the present dispensation, Salman Soz, son of state Congress chief Saif-ud-Din Soz on Friday opined that the people seem more satisfied with the performance shown by PDP-Congress coalition in past rather than the present coalition government.
Salman was recently in news when he evoked a debate among political circles in the state by sharing his survey on a social networking site Facebook for the forthcoming Legislative Assembly polls. In his survey Salman had said that 56 percent of respondents favored a pre-poll alliance between Congress and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) against 8percent who are content with Congress-National Conference (NC) alliance.
Talking to a local news agency , Salman said after PDP-Congress coalition government, it is the tenure of Ghulam Nabi Azad as the chief minister, that the state witnessed prosperity. "The state witnessed how golden was the rule of Azad and it is in that period that state achieved remarkable mile stones almost in every field."
When asked about the possibility of his father being anointed as the party's chief ministerial candidate in coming elections, Salman said that he would be happy if his father becomes chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir. "Why not, he is capable and has really worked hard to strengthen Congress here. The state would be prosperous in his (Soz) tenure."
Stating that if the party asks him to contest polls in the state, he would be ready for the same, Salman stated that his foremost priority is the redressal of day to day issues of the masses. "I am not here for gaining power. I work for my people. Yes! As far as elections are concerned, if the party asks me to fight whether for parliament or assembly, I will fight with zeal and zest. If the party directs me to go for campaigning, I will follow the orders."
Regarding pre- poll alliance for the forthcoming polls, Salman said that the high command is yet to take the final call over the issue. "Nothing has been decided yet. We have to wait for the decision of the party high command. Workers say we must not forge any alliance and I am sure that party will take into account their views."
An MBA from Yale University and a masters degree in economics from Northeastern University in the United States to his credit, Salman said that the people of valley are disconnected with the government at present and lack of accountability prevails everywhere in the state. "If there is a power crises here, people are not being told how and when the same will be rectified. In the same way there are huge problems of roads and water supplies. No road map for remedial measures, exist in this state."
"The reports we have, reveal that 95 percent of people are satisfied with the Mufti- Azad coalition and they term their tenure developmental and prosperous for the state." Salman stated further that he in the recent past asked the gathering at North Kashmir to raise hands if they are satisfied the present system of governance. "No one really did that and I repeated the same in border area of Jammu region, there also I got the same response."
Salmaan said that the political mainstream in Jammu and Kashmir has failed to deliver on ground and if the situation persists, it will have the disastrous impact on youth of the state. He said that the unemployment is a major concern for the people at present and that the dispensation is not coming with the proper road map to address this grave issue.
