| CSC’s role for making rational recommendations hailed | | | Early Times Report
Billawar, Feb 3: Former MLA and Congress leader Thakur Balbir Singh reiterated demand of district status for hilly areas of Kathua district. Addressing a meeting of public at Billawar, Thakur Balbir Singh, appreciated recommendations of Cabinet Sub Committee (CSC) to grant tehsil status to Dinga-Amb, Ramkote and Lohai Malhar and CD blocks for Dinga Amb, Mandli, Baggan and Gujro Nagrota. He said that these recommendations of the CSC would help the people to get solutions of their problems at their door steps. He said that these recommendations have been made on the basis of genuine demands of the people. He, however, reiterated his demand of creating a separate district comprising Billawar, Bani and Basholi from the existing Kathua district. He said that demand of creating hilly district comprising of these areas is genuine and just so government should immediately accept this demand of the people of this backward belt. He said that residents of Bani, Basholi and Billawar have been facing lot of hardship because district headquarters is located far away from their place. He mentioned that distance of district headquarters from Lawang area of Billawar is more than 250 kilometers so demand of the people to create a separate district is genuine. Congress leader said that it is time for people to intensify their struggle. He sought cooperation of the people to intensify the stir. While pointed towards backwardness and poor road connectivity in this hilly belt, Balbir Singh also demanded that a tunnel should be constructed from Kathal Billawar to Bani and demanded for improving conditions of roads and tracks in this hilly belt. Calling upon the people to strengthen hands of Congress president Sonia Gandhi and AICC vice Rahul Gandhi, he said that it was result of the vision of Congress leadership that various revolutionary steps have been taken by the UPA government. He especially mentioned Right to Food and Right to Education Acts passed by UPA regime. "Earlier people talked about development but people now talk about rights...Congress has raised the issue of people's right to get food", he said. |
