| Forum of Advocates for Political Empowerment of Jammu | | JAMMU Cause | | Neha JAMMU, Feb 3: The political situation in the neglected Jammu province is becoming increasingly volatile by the day, with political parties, social groups and intelligentia expressing their grave concern over the miserable plight of the people. The JKNPP has been demanding reorganization of the state and saying separate Chief Minister, separate Assembly and separate directorates for Jammu province are needed to empower the people of Jammu province and end the Kashmiri domination over this province. It is also demanding amendment to Article 370 so that the supremacy of the Parliament over the state is established. The BSP has been demanding trifurcation of the state and seeking abrogation of Article 370 saying this is the only panacea available to the neglected region of Jammu and neglected social groups, including the SCs, STs, OBCs, refugees from West Pakistan and so on. Last year, the BSP even moved a resolution in the Rajya Sabha demanding trifurcation of the state. The BJP has been advocating the need of political empowerment of Jammu province saying while it is for the protection of all the rights of the people of Kashmir, including the internally displaced Kashmiri Hindus and Sikhs, and for the UT status for Ladakh, it is its moral and political obligation to fight for the neglected people of Jammu province. Infact, it stands for a dispensation that ends Article 370 and invests the people of Jammu province with adequate executive and financial powers. Delimitation of the Assembly constituencies is yet another part of its important political agenda. The Jammu State Morcha, like the BSP and JKNPP, is also fighting for reorganization of the state on regional basis, saying the people of Jammu province are fed up with the existing political, administrative and constitutional arrangements and they want to shape and control fully their political, social and economic future within the Indian Constitution and independent of Kashmir. Yesterday, a group of lawyers organized an interaction within the premises of the Jammu & Kashmir High Court on the issue of Jammu province and resolved to establish what they called "Forum of Advocates for Political Empowerment of Jammu". There was unanimity among them on the issue of Jammu cause and they echoed strong voice and demanded political empowerment of Jammu province. In fact, they appealed to the people, cutting across party and religious lines, and intelligentia to rise to the occasion in the larger interest and future of Jammu province. They took on the political parties who are working for the disintegration of Jammu province and pledged that they would not only establish Forum of Advocates for Political Empowerment of Jammu but would also work to get rid of "Kashmiri domination and making Jammu self reliant, vibrant, more effective and dignified". "The meeting unanimously resolved to form Forum of Advocates for Political Empowerment of Jammu, create literature for distribution, establish committees at district level, launch door to door campaigning and organize more such interactions at all levels to include people of all walks of life,. Their forum would be totally apolitical forum. It will not contest elections and it will only create awareness and bring unity among people so as to make all political parties speak on Political Empowerment of Jammu," they said. The NC-Congress coalition and other Kashmir-based and Valley-centric formations need to take a cognizance of the developments in Jammu province and work for a dispensation that ends domination of Kashmir over Jammu province and Ladakh region and that ensures equal treatment to all the three region at all levels and in all spheres. This is imperative if the state is to remain intact and inter-regional bitterness and animosities are to disappear.
