| NC leader Javed Rana goes berserk; launches slanderous attack | | Loyalty under cloud! | | early times report Jammu, Feb 3: Look, who is talking? National Conference (NC) leader Javed Rana seems to have taken up line from 'Joseph Goebbels' propaganda book "If you cannot fight dissent, a wildest possible allegation is enough". It seems a news item which appeared on the front page of 'Early Times' on February 3, 2014 titled 'NC up for embarrassment in Mendhar, Party MLC likely to join PDP' has seemingly unveiled some 'secret understanding' which Rana did not want to get public. It got public and a man holding constitutional post of Deputy Chairman of Legislative Council hurriedly called a press conference, bulldozed institution of press by calling Journalists even accredited ones 'Blackmailers' and made valiant attempt to give genetic proof of his loyalty towards NC. He said and Early Times is reproducing the quote 'While the media, by and large, has been performing its crucial and important role with objectivity and professional ethics, some black sheep tend to undermine its sanctity by indulging in yellow journalism, he maintained. Rana said it is very sad that Early Times reporters have been continuously approaching him and asking for money. He refused to get blackmailed and this news item is a consequence of that, he asserted." Mr. Rana seems to have not been told by his colleagues that he is holding a constitutional position and if he was being blackmailed for money and a news report in which neither an allegation has been levelled on him nor has his integrity been questioned but a mere possibility has been talked about by referring to sources, was consequence of him not having got blackmailed, then Rana must understand, neither call details nor e-mails and text messages can be deleted forever. They can be retrieved and truth can be brought to light. Besides, politicians switching sides is nothing new. But Rana has attributed motives behind this news item. Early Times would have published his clarification as well as rebuttal in detail but he has accused the reporters of demanding money from him and here is what makes the story of blackmail and demand for money interesting. Rana, who is Deputy Chairman and a senior NC leader besides being brother of ex-DG and ex-VC of Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGBSU) Masud Choudhary, allowed these 'unworthy blacksheeps' to blackmail and demand money from him on the name of 'Early Times'. Surprisingly, Rana preferred silence while he was being blackmailed for reasons best known to him. One is forced to state that he seems to have forgotten that he belongs to a reputed and well-connected Gujjar family of Jammu region. The family has connections in almost in all the parts of administration, media and police. Yet the reporters managed to violate sanctity of the institution of Deputy Chairman of legislative council. Ironically, NC leader Javed Rana preferred neither to lodge a complaint with police nor with the Editors or Senior staff members of the Early Times, who are known well both to him and his party mentors about these 'blacksheeps' who had been demanding money from him. He used the word 'blackmail' but seemingly forgot to read the news item in detail, which explicitly referred to sources and did not make a mention anywhere of report being certain about his joining People’s Democratic Party (PDP). Having got habituated of using the word 'Yellow Journalism', Rana would have done good to himself if he would have produced 'Call details and mobile number' of the reporters who had been demanding money from him on the name of Early Times. By levelling such wild and frivolous allegations, NC leader has belittled himself and done more damage to his cause. Mr. Rana, you have proved your loyalty towards NC by launching a slanderous attack on the institution of Press and Journalist. But be sure, you allegations are not going to impact us. We assure you as well as our readers that if any substance is found in the allegations of Rana vis-à-vis reporters of Early Times indulging in blackmailing, which is highly unlikely, institution would lodge FIR with police within minutes of getting information about these 'blacksheeps.' We are not a political party, where corrupt blackmailers are crowned and honest ones are shown the door.
