| Lack of coordination, communication confuse media persons | | Indian science congress 2014 | | Sandeep Bhat
Jammu, Feb 3: The 101th Session of Indian Science congress which was inaugurated by Prime minister of India Dr Manmohan Singh at Jammu university today amidst lack of communication between various departments/ agencies. The media fraternity brunt the most of it as there was total lack of communication between the Jammu university authorities and information department, which was responsible for the pick and drop facilities besides providing up-to-date information regarding the Indian Science congress 2014. No details of the programme had been provided to media persons. The media was asked to report at PCR at 7am in the morning from where they boarded in buses after proper frisking by the security agencies not only once but at university gate and later when entering the main hall. This was for the first time such unprecedented security and frisking took place in the city of temples. While issuing passes to the media persons (accredited) it was strictly mentioned that mobiles will not be allowed. But when media persons reached PCR and where about to board the buses, the security agencies asked media persons to carry their mobiles with them. There was no prior information given by the concerned agencies/ department regarding allowing of mobiles to media persons. On the condition of anonymity a senior journalist said that he is in the profession from the last twenty five years and has never seen such a chaotic situation. The information department provided only list of accredited journalists to the Jammu University which didn't go well with the non accredited journalist fraternity, which complained of bias treatment meted out with them. Some of the passes issued to non accredited media for coverage of the function by the Jammu university officials themselves. Another correspondent said he and his other colleague were shocked to see that there was no one to attend them after closing of inauguration of Indian science congress. He complained that there was total lack communication between the information department and the university officials. He also mentioned that due to inclement weather he couldn't find the bus in which he was brought from PCR to Jammu university and had to travel on foot to reach destination. No doubt this is a mega event happening in the state of Jammu and Kashmir for the first time where more than eight thousand delegates across the country and abroad are taking part, but the organizers should have taken precautionary measures for ensuring smooth coordination and communication between the various departments entrusted with different jobs. |
