| Demanding Tehsil status for Jandrah, locals block Mansar-Udh highway | | | Et Report Jammu, Feb 3: A large number of people from Jandrah and its adjoining villages today blocked Mansar-Udhampur National Highway for hours to register their protest against the discrimination meted out to them by Cabinet Sub-Committee (CSC) while recommending new administrative units in the state. Led by Anil Sharma, Sarpanch, Jandrah, Pritam Singh, Sarpanch Panchayat Dhan, Raghuvir Singh, Sarpanch, Nagola and Naib Sarpanch Saleem Mohammad protestors came to roads irrespective to their caste of religion and demanded justice. Raising slogans against the National Conference-Congress coalition regime, the protestors said that Jandrah, Dhan, Korga, Bhatyari, Kanyala, Nagola and many other Panchayats were ignored by the Cabinet Sub-Committee (CSC) which recently announced new administrative new units after cabinet approval.The protestors said that the area had got Niabat about 37 years ago and there had been a long pending demand for upgrading the existing Niabat to tehsil. "We are not against anyone but Jandrah was neglected by the ruling regime, protestors said adding, "government has not followed any criteria in announcing new administrative units and the recommendation of Cabinet Sub-Committee are purely a politically motivated.' Ranjit Singh Jamwal, one of the protestors, said Jandrah was recommended by Mushtaq Committee as well as Baloria Committee for tehsil status but the Cabinet Sub Committee (CSC) deleted its name from the list of new administrative units on political lines. The villagers have also removed all the flags and the banners of various political parties from their respective areas and threatened that they would not allow any political leader to hold rally in their areas until they get justice in form tehsil status to Jandrah. |
