| Peace Bus service resumes; 64 passengers cross LoC | | Families of stranded drivers protest; Traders lose Rs 16 cr in 18 days | | Et Report Srinagar, Feb 3 : After 18-days of deadlock on LoC over seizure of narcotics, the Srinagar-Muzaffarbad bus service resumed with 64 passengers crossing the divide. Giving details about the passengers, Firdous Iqbal, Regional Passport Officer Sringar informed that 28 passengers went to Muzaffarabad on Monday. Out of 28 passengers that went to Pakistan Administered Kashmir (PAK), 18 were new and 10 were from PAK who had been stranded due to suspension of bus service. Iqbal said that 36 passengers came in from PAK out of which only 2 are new. "34 were stranded in Pak due to suspension of bus service and they returned home on Monday." The operations on Srinagar-Muzaffarabad and Poonch-Rawlakote bus service was suspended after PAK authorities demanded release of a Pakistani driver for resumption of the bus service. The cross bus service was stopped on January 17 when security agencies and the Jammu and Kashmir Police seized around 114 packets of brown sugar worth Rs 100 crore from a Srinagar bound truck at Salamabad, near Uri. 48 drivers were stranded at Salamabad-Uri and 27 drivers in PAK after PAK officials refused to accept 48 drivers and demanded immediate release of their arrested driver. Meanwhile, families of stranded drivers staged a massive protest demonstration at Chakoti demanding release of stranded drivers. On the other side, the Cross LoC traders union has demanded an end to the prevailing stalemate and demanded immediate resumption of trade Cross LoC trade activities. The traders have said that they suffered a loss of Rs 16 Crores during the last 18 days. |
