Jammu, Feb 3 (JNF): In a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) against alleged illegal construction by the Land Mafia, Division Bench of State High Court directs state to file objections within four weeks. Division Bench of State High Court comprising Chief Justice MM Kumar and Justice Dhiraj Singh Thakur granted time to State for filling objections within four weeks as to why Jammu & Kashmir Municipal Corporation Act, 2000 which was made fully operational on February 4, 2005 vide SRO 2005 is not made functional till date.
The directions came in the wake of Public Interest Litigation filed by one Naresh Kumar Gupta, alleging some illegal and unauthorized construction is being raised by the Land Mafia in the residential area at Mohalla Paharian near Geeta Bhawan Jammu. Petitioner also alleged that the construction is the result of conspiracy with the watch and ward staff, Chief Enforcement Officer, Senior Town Planner and Other Officers of the Jammu Municipal Corporation.
