| Defiant Farooq shows no remorse on `Maha Chor' remark | | | Asif Iqbal Naik
Jammu, Mar 4 : The Union Minister for New & Renewable Energy Dr. Farooq Abdullah who is in the eye of the storm over his comment "Kashmiri's are maha Chor (Kashmiri's are thieves)" remained defiant and unapologetic over his remark and blamed the media for creating the misunderstanding and confusion. While talking to the media persons on the sideline of a function at Jammu, he said that media has misquoted him. "I am very sad that one of the newspapers has misquoted me two days ago. I was in a meeting at Delhi and I spoke about power pilferage," said Farooq Abdullah. He said that he had said that there is an unfortunate thing that the state government buy power to nearly Rs 2000 to 3000 crore, but wasn't able to get that money back. "There is lot of pilferage of power and many of our people are stealing power and the meters instead of going forward are going back ward" said Farooq Abdullah. He said that he had never said anything like "Kashmiri's are thieves". He said that power pilferage happens all over country, but the biggest transmission losses in the country are in Jammu and Kashmir. "I have said this in past as well, this is not a new thing from me... I even said the same when I was the Chief Minister of the state... why should the newspaper published this now when elections are round the corner--it is simply to create a misunderstanding and confusion" lambasted Farooq Abdullah at media. In a question regarding PDP President Mehbooba Mufti demanding applogy from his over his "Kashmiri's Maha Chor" comment, Farooq Abdullah said that Mehbooba Mufti always remain critic of him and refuse to apologize. "I think Miss Mehbooba Mufti has always opposed us, this is nothing new from her, she is known for her trend to hit us. She is always wrong and it is she who must tender an apology," maintained Farooq Abdullah. It is pertinent to mention here that Farooq Abdullah's "Kashmiri's Maha Chor"remark has snowballed into massive controversy and many Kashmir and Jammu based political parties demanded unconditional apology from. PDP members also created massive uproar in Jammu and Kashmir assembly and even stage walkout. |
