| Woman's death leads to protests at Prang- Ganderbal, SHO among four injured | | | Jehangir Rashid SRINAGAR, Mar 4: Protests broke out in the Prang area of Central Kashmir's Ganderbal district after a woman died allegedly due to the poisoning by her in laws. The protests led to situation with ding dong battles being witnessed between the protesters and the police cops. Reports reaching here said that a police officer was among four people injured in the clashes between the people protesting against the death of the woman and the police. The clashes carried on for some hours leading to disruption both in the pedestrian and the traffic movement. There was tension in the area due to the clashes and the situation remained volatile for hours together. Reports said that Nilofar Jan, wife of Bashir Ahmad Wani of Kangan died at the SKIMS Soura on Tuesday morning due to the alleged poisoning by her in laws at her house on Monday evening. Her death triggered violent protests by her family members and relatives in Prang area of the Ganderbal district. As soon as the news of Nilofar's death spread this morning; scores of people, including her relatives took to streets and staged demonstrations. Shouting slogans, the protesters alleged that Nilofar was poisoned by her-in laws at her husband's house in Kangan on Monday evening. The protesters alleged that the woman was being victimized by her in laws on petty excuses. Angry protesters also tried to block Ganderbal-Ladakh highway causing disruption in traffic. However, cops swung into action and tried to disperse the agitating locals. But still then there was disruption in the traffic for some hours on this all important highway. Reports said that some of the agitated youth pelted stones on the police personnel thus leading to ding dong battles between the two sides. There was an outbreak of clashes with people raising their revolt against the death of a woman. Youth pelted stones on cops and the situation remained tense in the entire Prang area. SHO Ganderbal Liyaqat Ahmad along with two other police cops were injured in the clashes that continued for several hours in the Prang area. In the meantime it has been learnt that police have started proceedings under section 174 CrPc in the case of alleged poisoning of the woman. The husband of the deceased woman has been picked for questioning and more arrests are likely to be effected. |
