| Delaying tactics on mind, coalition Govt stage manages 'role' in LA | | Temple bill pushed in cold storage 'mode' | | Having spent time and money on Select Committee, refers it to Joint panel...... Early Times Report JAMMU, Mar 4: Even as the ruling National Conference stage managed its 'role' related to crucial Temple Bill in the Legislative Assembly today, two things emerged very clear from what was witnessed in the House - one that NC doesn't want to annoy its partner Congress over the issue which is the main party posing impediment in its passage and second that coalition Government all through was never sincere and truthful in having this legislation for various reasons. The Government wasted precious time of Select Committee for over two years and spent huge amount in holding its meetings. Referring the Bill to Joint Select Committee now is explicitly a delaying tactics move which NC and Congress made in a clever. Though some members were in favour of letting the bill get passed during this session, both the allies, with delaying tactics on mind enacted a scene which put this Bill in cold storage. Surprisingly, BJP along with Jammu based members too got carried away in this 'political drama' , even though the points as a matter of objection they raised were easy to have been addressed, had the coalition been willing for passage. In all this, the Government once again failed protaganists of the Bill and Kashmiri Pandit community in particular which has been crying hoarse and struggling for the same for over five years. What happened in the House today over this issue has not come as a surprise nor a shock, for such tactics are no new with NC led coalition Government particularly on matters which do not suit the allies one way or the other. That both NC as well as Congress have adopted pretensious roles many times is too known to need elaboration. The fact remains that in this case, both the parties, NC in particular now stands completely exposed, no matter it presented itself in a manner that suggested that the party was willing for passage of the Bill and pushed the ball in the court of others. The manner Congress and BJP too conducted itself gave an impression of something like a 'fixed' situation . One only wonders why the Government pushed the matter almost to oblivion by referring the matter to Joint Select Committee, which was unwarranted, given the fact that the stand of all parties now stands clear over the Bill. The explanation by Congress that Upper House has some KP members whose view point would be incorporated is more than laughable and only amounts to befooling the people, KP community in particular. |
