| Legislators allege bureaucratic Dadagiri, seek Privilege Motion against erring Officers | | | Abodh Sharma JAMMU, Mar 4: Irate by what they termed as bureaucratic Dadagiri, several members of the State Legislative Assembly have demanded privilege motion against Deputy Commissioners who have shown disrespect to the elected representatives. Interestingly, the issue was raised during Zero Hour today by MLA Kathua Charanjeet Singh, who himself has been a bureaucrat before being elected to the State Legislative Assembly. The MLA informed the Chair that he was using public funds arbitrarily without the consent of the District Development Board and was ignoring the repeated correspondences of the MLA which he was under legal obligation to respond to and hence he intended to bring Privilege motion against him. As the Deputy Speaker Mohammad Sartaj Madani asked him to give his representation in writing, Panthers MLA from Udhampur got up and demanded to know that he along with 31 other MLAs had given a written representation seeking a privilege motion against Deputy Commissioner Udhampur, but nothing had been heard about it. However, the Deputy Speaker informed the member that the representation had come under suspicion as one of the 31 members had approached the Speaker for withdrawing his name from the representation. "One of the members has demanded withdrawal of his name and hence the representation has come under suspicion" Dy Speaker informed. On being insisted by Mankotia to disclose the name of the member, the Dy Speaker informed that MLA Ramban, Ashok Kumar had sought to withdraw his name. It is pertinent to mention here that while MLA Kathua had issues of protocol with the previous Deputy Commissioner Kathua who had participated in a function as chief guest where the MLA was also invited, Deputy Commissioner Udhampur was in news for showing disregard to elected representatives and keeping the village heads standing at a public function. |
