Unborn child's death due to negligence of doctor
Three-member Inquiry committee fails to take action

Jammu, Mar 13 : Exposing the apathetic attitude of Health Department towards the poor people, the inquiry ordered by the department in the alleged death of unborn child due to negligence of doctor in Government Hospital Gandhi Nagar, has been thrown in the dust bin. Sources said that due to political pressure, the concerned doctors shielding and the poor family who lost their child is running from pillar to post to get justice. On February 16, family of a pregnant woman had claimed that due to alleged negligence of doctors at Government Hospital, Gandhi Nagar, baby died in her womb. "We have approached the officials several times, but they are not giving any response. They are just ignoring our plight. It's very unfortunate that they are not giving any response", said Madhu, the women who delivered the child. They had alleged that despite fully knowing the serious condition of the women who was referred from District Hospital Samba, doctors on duty did not perform caesarean operation to save the life of the child. The Director Health Services had constituted the inquiry committee.
The committee is headed by Dr. Gurjeet Singh, state malaria officer. According to case history, the lady Madhu w/o Omkar Singh resident of Nud in Samba district and was referred from District Hospital to Gandhi Nagar hospital in view of severe complication.
Sources said that in number of cases many of the children delivered in private nursing homes in Jammu and other districts are referred to SMGS and if they are not able to survive, the blame is put on the hospital for poor service. "Emergency cases are almost dumped in the government hospitals in case there is some medical complication to newly born child and mother but at times doctors are not taking any step to", said a senior doctor on condition of anonymity.
