Early Times Report
Mendhar, Mar 13: Minister for PHE, Sham Lal Sharma today had to face a revolting onslaught from people of Mendhar when he came under the direct charge from the two warring groups of Congress demanding mandate for a regional candidate for the upcoming Lok Sabha contest from the area.
While the minister tried to educate the local populace about the decision being the prerogative of high command, the raging groups refused to give audience to his plea that resulted into the scene of his party workers' address venue changing into a battleground with broken chairs and tables flying across amongst the jostling crowd that took the minister also for a ride in the mayhem.
While on one hand Congress seems buoyant over Ghulam Nabi Azad's candidature being reported from Udhampur- Doda-Kathua Parliamentary segment, to its sharp contrast, the party workers clashing today in Mendher and that too in front of Minister for PHE and Flood Control Sham Lal Sharma has apparently bared the veiled hypothesis of Congress being a united house .
The ugly incident took place when the Minister, who was on a visit to Mendhar on Thursday and was interacting with party workers during his scheduled itinerary of his visit, was taken aback as Congress supporters of ex MLC Murtaza Khan and the other faction fought among themselves while pushing each other around.
To his surprise some of party workers even voiced that Congress in Mendher is a 'divided house' and is facing a tug of war between Sardar Majid Khan distt President Congress and former MLC who recently joined the party with much fanfare.
An eyewitness from Mendhar said that things took ugly turn, when Minister for PHE and Flood Control paid his visit to ex MLC's Government Quarter in Mendhar where some of his supporters echoed their voice demanding ticket for Murtaza Khan.
