| Villages remain cut off from district headquarters North Kashmir | | Administration forgets North Kashmir | | Syed Tahir Bukhari
BARAMULLA, Mar 13: Vehicular connectivity in most of the areas of North Kashmir districts remained affected as the administration failed to clear snow from roads cutting dozens of areas from the respective district headquarters. "The problems of water logging are being repeatedly faced here but it does not seem to bother the authorities. Over the years the government is repeating the same mistake and is showing green meadows to the people of this area.," said Abdul Rashid Dar, a resident of Kalantra Bala Residents of several villages of Kupwara, Baramulla and Sopore complained that the administration has failed to clear snow from main roads, as well as from the link roads. This has badly affected movement of vehicles and pedestrians. "During these days of snowfall, we haven't seen any snow clearing machines coming to this route to clear snow from the roads. Now the drivers have been risking their lives by ferrying the passengers. At various places vehicles are seen submerged in snow," said Mohammad Sultan Lone, a resident of Kandi Sultanpora, Baramulla. He said that majority of villages have been flooded with water while none from the administration had visited to the area. "A local here can't move out of his house as the whole area is waterlogged. Even the roads of uptown areas including that of Sopore and Pattan are flooded forcing people to stay indoors," the locals said. Similarly various areas of Bandipora area have remained cut off from the district headquarters due to the water logging, thus affecting vehicular as well as the pedestrian movement. "Villages particularly those which are situated at the foothill are facing problems as the whole area is waterlogged and add to it the no clearance of snow. Unfortunately in these areas, the snow clearing vehicles can't reach due to the poor road connectivity," said Gayas-ud-Din, a resident of Ajas Bandipora. At the same time the Power Development Department (PDD) in North Kashmir has restored more than 60 per cent power. However, people alleged that they are still facing frequent power failure after intervals. Meanwhile after remaining suspended for 3 days due to land sliding on Srinagar Muzaffarabad road near Red Bridge, cross Loc trade is likely to resume today as the road according to officials has been cleared from this side. Reports said, due to heavy rains and snowfall heavy stone and mud fell down on Srinagar Muzafferabad road near Dankhan Uri disrupting the moment of vehicle for hours together. However authorities pressed service on Beacon employees and machinery to remove the hindrance, Later road was cleared. "The road is clear now from this and hopefully the trade will resume today, however we do not know the situation of road from across the border," said Custodian LoC trade Salamabad, Showkat Ahmad Rather. |
