| NSF stages protest against Chief Electoral Officer | | Appeals President of India, State Governor, ECI to intervene in Election Assistant’s case | |
Jammu, Mar 13 : National Secular Forum (NSF) today staged protest demonstration against Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) against its failure to initiate action against officials of district administration, here at University of Jammu. More than two dozen protesters assembled near Fountain of JU and started raising slogans against District administration officials and in favour of their demands. Addressing the media persons, NSF President Sukhdev Singh said that the state government has failed to forward the case of Election Assistant (Praveena Akhtar) to State Vigilance Organization (SVO) and holding of a separate inquiry against DC Jammu and other officials, for their callousness to lodge FIR over blank cheques. NSF President said that it was very astounding that union government has been claiming about women empowerment across country, but on the other hand a women official was being harassed and no First Information Report (FIR) has been lodged by administration on the complaint of EA Parveen Akhtar, who had leveled very serious allegations against the ADC Jammu Kalyan Singh, MLA Indu Pawar and Shahnaz Choudhary AC (G). "It was very unfortunate for EA Parveena Akhtar that, without any departmental inquiry Deputy Commissioner (DC) Jammu had suspended her while she had complaint against the ADC Jammu Kalyan Singh, MLA Indu Pawar and Shahnaz Choudhary AC (G)", Singh said, adding that as EA had refused to do such an illegal transaction in respect of public money, the district officials, who were working on dictates of their political masters had suspended her. "The issue needs a through inquiry by State Vigilance Organization (SVO) but till date no action has been taken," said NSF President. He further said that the DC had tried to silence the honest voices by suspending Parveen Akhtar. "It is very uncalled for that instead of taking action, an attempt was made to silence a whistleblower by dragging her in a frivolous case, he said. NSF President further said that at one hand state government as well as Election Commission of India (ECI) has been stressing for free and fair elections. "But from prime facie evidences it is clear that Parveen Akhtar is a victim of political conspiracy, which needs to be unraveled", he said, adding that without taking action against the district officers, free and fair elections would not be ensured. NSF state president Sukhdev Singh appealed President of India, Governor NN Vohra and Election Commission of India to intervene in the case of EA Praveena Akhtar and save the democratic voices in Jammu and Kashmir. Among those who were present in the protest included Surjit Choudhary, Qayoom Malik, Barket Tahir, Rishikesh Rana, Amit Sanotra, Ajaz Shah , Vikram Madhyal,PP Singh, JB Singh, Altav and others. |
