Sports Reporter JAMMU, Mar 21: Vikram Abrol of Indian Institute of Integrated Medicine (IIIM) clinched both singles and doubles title in the Carrom Tournament, organised by the Central Government Employees Welfare Coordination Committee (CGEWCC) and hosted by Central Water Commission (CWC) at Jal Ayog Bhawan, Rajinder Nagar, Bantalab, here today. In singles final, Vikram defeated Sunil Kumar of Principal Accountant General (PAG) 3-1. Earlier, in the semifinal, Sunil Kumar of PAG beat V K Malhotra of National Sample Survey Organisation (NSSO) while Vikram trounced Dalbara Singh of Survey of India (SOI). The Results: Quarterfinals: Vikram bt Rajinder Sharma (IIIM), Sunil Kumar (PAG) bt Rattan lal (NSSO), V K Malla (NSSO) bt Maheshwar Singh (SOI), Dalbara Singh (SOI) bt Joginder Kumar (SOI). Meanwhile, in doubles event, pairing with A K Tripathi (IIIM), Vikram Abrol won the final thereby making it a double title win. The duo beat Joginder Kumar and Sanjeev Sharma of SOI in straight 3-0 games. Earlier, in the semifinals, Vikram and Tripathi defeated Sunil Kumar and Ajay of PAG 2-1 while Joginder Kumar and Sanjeev Sharma of SOI registered a 2-1 win over V K Malla and Yash Pal of NSSO. In total, 32 Central Government employees, representing various departments turned for the day-long competition. Director Monitoring and Appraisal, CWC, Ministry of Water Resources, Government of India, Vivek Tripathi declared the competition open. Later, the final witnessed by Executive Engineer, Chinab Division of the CWC, A K Shukla, who appreciated the zeal among the senior staffer from different age groups.
Simula, Samar Club advance in T20 Cup Sports Reporter JAMMU, Mar 21: Simula XI and Samar Club won their respective matches to move into the next round of the ongoing 2nd Christmas Cricket Twenty-20 Cup, organized jointly by J&K Police and Christian Sports Organization at KC Sports Club ground, here today. In the first match of the day, the formidable side of Simula made it a huge 102 runs win against SKPA XI. Batting first, Simula set a big total of 209 runs for seven wickets. Atul scored 61 runs off 41 deliveries while, Puneet contributed 13-ball 37 runs. Prince and Nasir added 17 runs each. From Simula, Javed and Arif shared two wickets eaech while RC Kotwal, Jagpal and Sofi Javed shared apiece each. In reply, SKPA could not chase the target and bundled out for just 102 runs. Javed remained top scorer with 33 runs, Naresh Singh and Majid added 18 and 16 runs respectively. Hilal Rather and Sameer took three wickets each. Atul adjudged man of the match for his half century. In another match of the day, Samar Club defeated Sai Cricket Club by eight wickets. Batting first, Sai Club set a target of 98 runs for seven wickets. Vinay, Veeru and Mintu were main scorers with 24, 21 and 10 runs in their respective accounts. Kaka emerged as most successful bowler with three wickets while Sourav and KK shared one each. In reply, Samar Club chased the target in 13.4 overs. Chetan remained unbeaten at 49, followed by Jasvinder (14) and Amrit (13). Mintu and Sonu shared the wickets. Chetan was named man of the match. NEXT MATCH: Simula Club shall take on KC Sports Club at the same venue tomorrow.
Lord Mahavira School celebrates Annual Sports Day Sports Reporter JAMMU, Mar 21: Lord Mahavira Playway School, Shivnagar celebrated Annual sports day with enthusiasm and zeal. In the sports day meet, Toddlers from Pre-nursery to 1st classes took part. Demonstration by the invited speed ball team, band march pass and demo of karate marked the starting of the meet. The Toddlers participated in different events including Lemon race, Frograce, Simple race, pair race and Leg fold race. They also took part in baseball, Collect the toys and Water the plants games too. In collect the toys. Devasbee,Tanisha and Harjot emerged winners, whereas in baseball Aadhya Sharma, Pariyat and Tanishq claimed 1st ,2nd and 3rd positions respectively. Simple Race: Saranshi, Naina and Mannat claimed 1st ,2nd and 3rd positions respectively. Frog Race: Suryavansh, Samarth and Radhika and in Hop race Vidanshi, Arpita and Harshit emerged as winners. Partner Race: Namya, Geetika, Vaishnavi, Tejasivigupta, Mannat and Amanat. Spoon Race: Shaurya Adhyan, Daksh claimed 1st, 2nd and 3rd positions respectively. Sag Race : Suresh, Siddarth and Priyanshu emerged winners. The Chief guest stressed that the games should be organized to boost the physical standard and mental ability of the students.
WWF Nature India, GHS, Bharthi Organise volunteer plantation drive ET Report Bharthi, Mar 21: In order to celebrate World Arbor Day 2014 Educational, Environmental, Social, Sports and Cultural, Society Bhalessa in collaboration with WWF Nature India and Govt High School Bharthi Organise a volunteer plantation drive in village Bharthi. The plantation drive was inaugurated by Commanding Officer 26RR, S.Bhradewaj by planting a Deodar plant in the premises of Govt High School Bharthi. Later on a function was organized which was presided over by the Commanding Officer 26 RR. The function was attended by Sarpenches, Penches, Senior citizens, Teachers and Students and Volunteers or the society in large gathering. Speaking on the occasion Chairman of the Society, Mohd Ayoub Zarger said 21st of March is celebrated as plantation day at international level and organizing this function is the key Activity of this NGO. He delivers a detail lecture on role of plants on sustaining of life and development on this plant. He further said that Bhalessa was known for its green wealth but unfortunately we have lost this precious wealth due continuous deforestation and these is great need to conserve the forest for future generation. He appeals the people to co-operate with the society for the conservation of forests so that ecological balance could be maintained. In his president address Commanding Officer appreciated the working of the society for organizing such function in rural area. He appeal the general public to strengthen the hand of the Society that green gold could be saved for the future generation. Other who spokes on the occasion includes Jamayat Ali Agah secretary of the society, Sarpench Bharthi Javed Iqball, Incharge Head Master Tariq Hussain Mir, it is maintained here that 1000. Non fruit plants were distributed among the villager free of cost.
