| Is NC really supporting coalition candidates in Jammu? | | | ET Report Jammu, Mar 21: Is the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (NC) putting all its efforts to help its coalition candidates for Lok Sabha elections? The question is making rounds in the political circles in Jammu as reports from ground suggest that NC is not serious in its efforts to support the coalition candidates. During Thursday's show of strength by Congress candidate for Jammu-Poonch Lok Sabha segment and other Congress leaders, the NC did not play any significant role to make the road show more strong. Even when the media persons were scheduled to cover this rally, the NC called a press conference where a former Government employee union leader had to join the party. This may have been done to divert the attention from the rally and take some time out. Almost all Congress leaders brought their supporters to showcase their support to the candidate but not a single NC leaders were conspicuous by their absence. Though NC has very little base in Jammu city but in whole Jammu-Poonch Lok Sabha segment NC has upper hand in a few pockets. In Vijaypur area of Samba district, NC has its own MLA and enjoys strong base but not many people from that area gathered in Jammu to show their support to the Congress candidate. Similarly, in Nagrota Assembly constituency, NC has good base but the leaders failed to bring people from there to join the rally. Now, it is seen that the contesting Lok Sabha elections in alliance is just a myth as NC hasn't been able to show their support to the Congress party. If in upcoming days, this trend continues, NC may face problem in valley, where the party is contesting on all three seats. Congress may not be able to gather support for them if NC doesn't help them in Jammu region. |
