| BJP planning to give Azad tough competition on Doda-Udhampur Lok Sabha seat | | | Early Times Report UDHAMPUR, Mar 21: Doda-Udhampur Lok Sabha seat has become prestigious issue for BJP and party will leave no stone unturned in wresting it from Congress this time. According to high placed party sources the BJP High Command soon after the official announcement by Congress Party to field Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad has issued instructions to state cadre to fully concentrate on the seat and launch vigorous campaigning to wrest it from Congress. The Party has also decided to send some star campaigners to the State especially for campaigning in Doda -Udhampur Lok Sabha segment, sources said adding the BJP's star campaigner and Party's Prime Ministerial campaign has also decided to launch the election campaign by addressing a first poll rally in Hiranagar township on March which falls in Doda-Udhampur Lok Sabha segment after Mr Modi pays his obeisance at Mata Vaishno Devi shrine on March 26. Sources said earlier it was decided that Modi will address a poll rally at Jammu but soon after the announcement of Congress to field Azad, the Party High Command changed the venue of Mr Modi's rally to Hiranagar where the BJP's fire band leader will make an appeal to people of the region to vote for his Party candidates and recall Jammu's traditional contribution in strengthening national forces in country. Sources said Modi will give special focus on Doda -Udhampur Lok Sabha segment and seek the vote for Party candidate Dr Jitendra Singh to bring the people with clean image and probity in public life. Meanwhile sources said that the name of Mr Azad was cleared by Party High Command as it was under constant pressure from its coalition partner in the State in this regard. Soon after BJP declared the name of Dr Jitendra Singh for the seat, some NC leaders who have close proximity with Chief Minister appealed him to pursue the Congress High Command to field Mr Azad who belongs to Bhaderwah from the Udhampur-Doda constituency to give a tough fight to BJP. Though Azad like some other Congress leaders had shown his unwillingness earlier in contesting the elections but after constant pressure by alliance partner to Party High Command as well as insistence by PCC chief Saif-ud-Din Soz to field Azad from Doda -Udhampur Constituency, High Command cleared his name after a great tussle yesterday. Sources said while Prof Soz with the fielding of Azad is trying to kill two birds with one stone, an NC leader too wants that BJP should not at least win the Doda-Udhampur seat and fielding of Mr Azad and motivating Azad to contest from this constituency was only alternative to it. Sources said while Prof Soz advised Sonia Gandhi that victory of every seat matters for Congress in ensuing elections and Azad was a good choice for Doda-Udhampur Constituency. This way profs oz wants to keep the space clear in the State for taking over as next Chief Minister after the Assembly poll in case NC-Congress alliance will be somewhere near to form the Government in the State. |
