Srinagar, Mar 22 : With People's Democratic Party (PDP), National conference (NC), Peoples conference (PC) and Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP), newly formed Awami Itihad Party (AIP) led by Engineer Rashid today announcing its candidates to contest Lok Sabha polls from Kashmir, North Kashmir is likely to witness an interesting and multi-pronged contest.
Entering the fray, Awami Itihad Party (AIP) chief, Engineer Rashid today announced its candidates for the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls for the three Kashmir seats of Central, North and South Kashmir and appealed people to vote for him and his candidates.
Talking to Early Times, Rashid said he will contest from Baramulla-Kupwara seat against Muzaffar Hussain Baig of Peoples democratic party, Sharief-ul-din Shariq of National Conference -Congress alliance, Ghulam Mohammad Mir of Bhartiya Janata Party and Salam-ud-din Bajad of Peoples Conference, while as Advocate Mujeeb-ul-Rehman of AIP will contest form Anantnag against Mehbooba Mufti and Mehboob Baig and another candidate of AIP Rashid Rahil will be AIPs candidate from Srinagar constituency to contest against Nc’s Dr Farooq Abdullah, Tariq Hamid Qara of and Raja Muzaffar of Aam aadmi party. Announcing its candidates for Lok Sabha polls in Srinagar today
Engineer Rashid said that it is a historical day for his party and he appealed the people of Kashmir to vote for him and his candidates in forthcoming parliamentary elections and authorize his party to address the grievances of people at national level. With the coming of AIP to contest Lok Sabha polls from three constituencies of Kashmir division, analysts believe that though North constituency of Kashmir is turning overcrowded with each passing day, however main contest will be between Muzaffar Beigh of PDP and Sharif-ud-din Shariq of NC only.
Analysts believe that though during the assembly elections of 2008 Engineer Rashid Managed to succeed as an independent candidate from Langate constituency but this time he can hardly manage to fetch few hundred votes from whole of North Kashmir as Peoples conference led by Sajad Lone who supported Engineer Rashid behind the veils in 2008 has announced its own candidate. Sajad, therefore will campaign this time for his own candidate instead of Engineer Rashid.
Besides big stalwart of PDP Muzaffar Beigh is also contesting from the same constituency, thereby may result in tough times for Engineer to contest Lok Sabah polls against from North Kashmir. Pertinently Sharif-ud-Din of National conference contesting from North Kashmir was defeated by Engineer Rashid during 2008 assembly elections from langate constituency, while as per reports former deputy chief Minister Muzaffar Hussain Beigh will be the main challenger this time for one and all as Muzaffar Hussain Beigh was the only cabinet minister of the PDP who was re-elected in the 2008 assembly elections and is believed to be influenced this time too in major vote costing areas of North Kahsmir.
