Jammu, Mar 22 : Amid much expectation of winning Doda-Kathua-Udhampur parliamentary seat for coalition government in Jammu and Kashmir, Congress party dropped two time sitting MP Lal Singh and replaced him with Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad as party candidate who according to the party is popular figure and has served the people as Chief Minister for 31 months from November 2005 to July 2008, before he decided to resign following withdrawal of support by Peoples Democratic Party in wake of aftermath of Amar Nath land transfer row can win the seat for party. If going through electoral details of Doda-Kathua-Udhampur parliamentary constituency, it has total 1412794 registered voters including nearly 655000 female voters speared over six Districts of Jammu province including Doda, Kathua, Udhampur, Ramban, Kishtwar and Reasi with 17 Assembly segments. Even though the past results favor the Congress from Doda-Kathua-Udhampur parliamentary seat which it has won 9 times as compared to BJP with just three wins, analysts feel that the main competition on Doda-Kathua-Udhampur seat is between BJP candidate Dr. Jatindra Singh and Congress candidate Ghulam Nabi Azad. However, PDP candidate Arshad Malik and JKDF Anil Gupta too can spoil their chances as few people are faded up with both the parties, but have no alternative other than BJP and Congress. Ghulam Nabi Azad expects majority of votes from erstwhile Doda District represented by the coalition partners on all six assembly segments having approximately 5.50 lakh voters. If going through the achievements of Azad as Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, he (Azad) during his 31 month tenure as Chief Minister remained Bhaderwah centric as other parts of the Doda District witnessed little development while other two districts, Ramban and Kishtwar remained neglected. Even though Congress leadership claims that Azad as CM sanctioned 8 new Districts to the state, but as far as sanctioning of annual funds for Doda and Kishtwar is concerned , both the districts received peanuts. People of Kishtwar also blame Azad for denying funds to Kishtwar Development Authority as compared to Bhaderwah Development Authority which witnessed massive development on tourism front. A large number of people in Udhumpur District are annoyed with him as while sanctioning five Medical Colleges in five districts of the state, he ignored Udhampur, a district spread over a vast area as compared to other districts that got the colleges. Other than developmental issues, some factors including Modi wave, Kishtwar communal clashes, protest in Azad's home town Bhaderwah over shifting of hospital to Dhandi, dropping of MLA Inderwal from council of ministers are some key factors that can go against Azad. The Doda-Kathua-Udhampur parliamentary constituency has nearly 70% Hindu voters while Muslims constitute 30 % of total electorate. It is likely that the Hindu votes will go to BJP. After getting assurance from party High Command about his proper rehabilitation, sitting MP Lal Singh has though assured full support to Azad, but angry Lal supporters may play prove a stumbling block to Azad's win.Proposed Modi rally at Hiranagar in Samba District schedule for 26th of this month will also play an important role for BJP candidate to garner public support in his favour. Besides the over 60000 VDC/SPO's will also played a positive role in favor of BJP candidate. Overall the contest on Doda-Kathua-Udhampur parliamentary seat is between Modi factor and 10 years UPA dismal show.
