| Govt’s adopting double standard: Omar, other accused in Haji Yousuf case were never asked to surrender official residence | | Rajni Sehgal facing harassment at the hands of State Govt | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Mar 22: Omar Abdullah led National Conference-Congress coalition government is adopting double standard in dealing with those who faced investigation or probe in some criminal cases. The then Superintendent of Kot Bhawal Jail Rajni Seghal has been facing onslaught of State Government over death of dreaded Pakistani prisoner Sanaullah Ranjay but similar yardstick was not adopted when probe was ordered in the mysterious death of National Conference worker Haji Yosuf. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and his some of his loyalists were under scanner in that high profile case. Due to pressure of the opposition a probe was ordered but during the investigation all the accuse persons were given all powers to influence the witness. But the same yardstick was not adopted in Pakistani prisoner's death case. Haji Yousuf, a renowned and prosperous businessman closely associated with the ruling National Conference was summoned by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to his residence on 29th September, 2011 following a complaint by another National Conference worker that Yousuf had collected Rs 84 lakhs for an MLC seat. After Haji Yosuf was called by the Chief Minister, he was declared dead on the 30th September, 2011. It was alleged that Haji Yosuf was arrested by the case and he died in police custody. As opposition pointed finger towards Chief Minister and his aides, the Government in order to dilute the orders of this court appointed a retired Judge of the Supreme Court on 18th November, 2011. The commission appointed by the Government has given clean chit to all accused but during the investigation accuse persons were not treated like Rajni Seghal, who is facing a probe. Instead of adopting similar yardstick, the Government has so far ordered third probe into this case. Even government has taken possession of the official residence of Rajni Sehgal but similar system was not adopted in Haji Yosuf case. According to reports in a section of media, the then Jail Superintendent has been facing harassment at the hands of State Government. The present Jail Superintendent of the Kot Bhalwal Central Jail, Dinesh Sharma, while complying with Director General, Prisons, PL Gupta's order, in his official letter dated March 20 has directed the panel to take over the possession of the official residence immediately and make proper and detailed inventory of all material keeping the same in store and submit a report to him. Shockingly similar yardstick was not adopted when investigation was started against Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. Haji Yousuf was allegedly died in the residence of Chief Minister but Omar Abdullah was not asked to vacate his official residence when investigation was going on against him. |
