Jammu, Mar 22: Merely four days ahead of filling his nomination papers for Udhampur-Kathua-Doda parliamentary seat, Union Health Minister and Congress party candidate Ghulam Nabi Azad today faced first rebellion in Kathua where supporters of sitting Congress Member Parliament Chowdhary Lal Singh's supporters held a massive protest demonstration at Kalibari Chowk raising anti Azad and pro Lal Singh slogans.
As per details available with Early Times, the supporters of Lal Singh assembled at Kalibari Chowk and showed their anger towards party high command over denying ticket to sitting Congress MP Lal Singh and also raised anti Azad and anti party slogans demanded a rethink on Azad's candidature.
They accused a few state leaders of the party of hatching a conspiracy against Lal who has set an example by leading from the front. The agitating Lal Singh supporters said that state party leadership is scared of Lal's popularity.
They also predicted Azad's defeat in upcoming election and added that only Lal Singh is a viable candidate for the Congress party from Udhampur-Kathua-Doda parliamentary seat and not Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad.
Meanwhile 30 Congress Sarpanches from Kathua have reportedly shifted their loyalties towards BJP and threatened to intensify their agitation to teach a lesion to Congress party for "butchering the son of the soil Lal Singh."
They also threatened to hold a protest against Azad by waving black flags when he (Azad) files his nomination papers. They said that more Sarpanches and Panches are expected to join BJP in coming days and threaten that in case party did not accommodate Lal Singh suitably before polling date, majority of Lal Singh supporters will cast their votes in favour of BJP or other candidates.
Despite repeated attempt to contact Lal Singh, he was not available for comment; however his close friend when contacted tries to downplay the incident and said that with the passage of time, the anger of Lal Singh supporters will cool down automatically. He even did not deny the report of 30 Congress Sarpanches joining BJP.
