| Toeing NC line, Congress assigns segment wise task to ministers | | Main thrust of assigned job: Remain in touch with Co-ordination committee | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Mar 22 : Leadership of state unit of Congress is busy in setting up a spree of committees- all for gearing up the campaign on two seats of Jammu, today one more having been added to the already existing poll panels of the party. Even as PCC chief Prof Saif-ud-Din Soz for the last two weeks has been trying to delegate responsibilty to almost all senior leaders of the party, he has assigned this task afresh to the ministers of the party today . While distributing various key constituencies as per their areas of political influence, PCC chief has asked them to remain in touch necessarily with coordination committee of both the alliance partners National Conference and Congress.In what can be seen as Congress trying to put the campaign in favour fo party candidates into heavy gear, the PCC chief has delegated the responsibilty of looking after various constituencies to at least six ministers all belonging to Jammu region. Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand is also on the top of the list who has been entrusted with the responsibility of focussing on as many Assembly segments including Chhamb, Akhnoor, Marh,Raipur-Domana, Bishnah, Vijaypur and Samba. Similarly, five more ministers in addition to Sham Lal Sharma who is the chairman of campaign committee of Congress have been assigned various constituencies under two Parliamentary seats of Jammu.
However, it has not been mentioned as to whether the ministers would be required to make frequent visits all by themselves or along with the candidate or with their counterparts in National Conference. Interestingly, assigning of fresh responsibilty to ministers comes in the wake of whisper complaints that ministers are not paying full attention and time to their areas of influence in Jammu the way NC ministers are vigorously doing it in Kashmir Valley. One more interesting fact also remains that Congress is moving ahead in a pro active manner for Jammu seats exhibits that the leadership has stakes only for these two seats as so far no such work or responsibilty has been assigned to any minister for Ladakh seat, no matter the poll date is scheduled in the last phase for this seat along with Baramulla seat in Kashmir Valley. As the focus for now remains on Jammu seats, one wonders if the ministers would coordinate with NC leaders in some areas, which looks difficult at least in some segments where the leaders and ministers of the parties were seen having sharp differences on key political issues which confronted the alliance partners in recent past. |
