Early Times Report Jammu, Mar 22: Harbans Bhalla Educational Trust (HBET) awarded scholarship worth Rs.11 lacs to 441 children from villages like Rehian, Arnia, Korjagir, Akalpur, Chakrohi, Jourian, Dansal and Birpur. According to press release, since 1997 the Trust has distributed Scholarships worth Rs 84 lacs to needy and meritorious students of government schools of mostly rural areas. The Trust is paying annual scholarships and conducting various other educational and child welfare schemes for children belonging to economically and educationally weak families for the past 17 years. Academic camps, counselling and other supportive measures are being provided by the Trust for reducing the wide spread illiteracy in the state. 90% of the selected students are girls.The Chief Guest Prof. Rajiv Gupta, PRO- Vice Chancellor (Central University) distributed the scholarships to various students at the occasion interacted with many of them and impressed upon them to work hard, take full benefit of the support being provided to them by the Trust and achieve excellence in their education to carve out a bright future. He stressed the need of every possible step being taken to promote the education of girls, particularly those who live in the slums and in the remote rural areas. He also wished them a bright future ahead. Children from villages of Doomi, Garh Mandi and Suriansar presented cultural items of song, dance and drama and. were appreciated by all. Certificates were also given to mentors. The best mentor's prices were given to Ramni Devi (Gajansoo), Preeti Langeh (Birpur), Suman Khajuria (Rajiv Nagar) and Chanda Rani (Korjagir). The best academic prizes were given to Sumiksha Thakur (Ist.Sangrampur), Kavita Choudry( 2nd, Gajansoo), Sonali(3rd, Nagrota), Prachi Devi(4th, Gajansoo), Abikash Kumar(5th, Rattian). Shiva Bandral (5th, Nagrota), Shahnaz Akhtar(6th, Gajansoo), Roma Bharti(7th, Ranjari), Shubam Nayak(8th, Talab tillo), Priyanka (9th, Doomi) and Mannu Bala (10th, Rehian). |
