JKP launches crackdown in Baramulla, 15 youth put behind bars | | | Syed Tahir Bukhari
BARAMULLA, Apr 27: Jammu and Kashmir police has launched a major crackdown against alleged 'stone-pelters in which 15 youth have been arrested in North Kashmir's Baramulla district, to prevent any untoward incidents like protests on the polling day May 7in North Kashmir. A top police official said they are continuously analyzing the video clips in order to identify the alleged stone-hurlers in different parts of Kashmir. "We ensure that no innocent gets trapped and every arrest is made after proper assessment and visualization," he said, adding that more than thousand youth are involved in recent stone-pelting incidents all across Kashmir. "As police is not having actual number with them but so for many arrests have been made, but we are conducting raids and stone-pelters have been picked up from Sopore, Palhalan,Old Town Baramulla and other adjoining parts of the valley," said a source. Sources said at least 15 youth have been arrested during nocturnal raids in North Kashmir's Baramulla town on the basis of video footage available with police," "There is apprehension that some miscreants may try to disrupt the law and order on the day of polling in different assembly segments of north Kashmir. "We are vigilant and have launched crackdown against those miscreants," the police official said. According to reports that Deputy Inspector General North Kashmir Range Ghulam Hasan Bhat has said all arrangements have been made to conduct the coming parliament elections in North Kashmir peacefully."There are few restive places like Palhalan, Pattan, Hajan and Sopore and police is ensuring that no untoward incident occurs during the polling day," he said adding that police is making all efforts to curb those elements who are inimical to peace. "Two days back, scores of stone-pelters attacked CRPF with stones and in this regard we have arrested few youth and formal cases have been registered against them,"he said Reports said that police have also conducting raids in, Baramulla, Hajan, and Sopore to apprehend all those stone-pelters who according to police are trouble-makers. Reports said that police arrested at least 5 youth during nocturnal raids in different areas of Bandipora's Hajan area, who are allegedly involved in stone-pelting incidents. Meanwhile it is pertinent to mention here that Hurriyat (G) Chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani has called for complete shutdown on April 30 for protest and demonstrations against the arrests and detentions of Hurriyat leaders and youngsters. |
