Employees to mount pressure on Government after polls | JAC seeking age increase demand as poll sop | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Apr 27: Nearly 5 lakh State Government employees are set to mount pressure on coalition Government to concede their demands including payment of pending dues of DA which was enhanced in February this year. The employee bodies which converge under the banner of Joint Action Committee is learnt to be devising strategy to launch fresh round of stir, this time focussed on increasing the age limit from 58 years to 60 years. JAC's pro active strategy would be in the wake of the fact that Assembly elections due by the end of this year which it views as imperatives of the Government to announce it as a poll sop for a huge chunk of voters in the state. Sources said even as ongoing Parliamentary poll process has put to halt any action on part of both the employees as also the Government with regard to any further movement in matters related to demands of employees, the latter are moving ahead in a tacit manner well conscious of the fact that current year is the ripe time for mounting pressure on the Government to concede the demands, particularly the age increasing demand being projected for over a decade now. Sources said employees have not made even whimper for the last over two months as they know Government is bound by MCC not to relent on any issue, not even the release of DA instalment. The offices with Durbar Move closed on a cool note with employees upbeat that soon after the LS polls and reopening of offices in summer capital JAC will mount pressure on the Government in a phased manner for conceding all pending demands well ahead of MCC that would be place again for Assembly polls, most likely in October -November. "It is a strange coincidence of two MCC phases in the state this year....we closed Durbar (offices) with MCC in place in the winter capital and we will have another MCC in place when Durbar shifts from Srinagar to Jammu...", said a senior leader of the JAC. This would make us tread the agitation path in a very calculated manner, he said adding that the focus of pressure would be on increasing the age limit. The employee leaders sources said have unofficially been conveyed by certain quarters in the Government that Government would do it on its own and give this as a sop for making happy lakhs of employees ahead of election, albeit with guarded timing. However, the employee bodies are cautions and in no mood to trust this commitment, Government having betrayed them many times earlier on various key demands on the pretext of financial implications. Pertinently, the Government enhanced DA of employees by 10% in February this year, while keeping in consideration the general elections. It also sanctioned the release of 10 percent DA installment, raising the total DA of the State Government employees from 80 percent to 90 percent with effect from July 1. However, DA installments have not paid to employees as per what Government had announced with respect to arreas, sources said. The employees and leaders of various key bodies are now waiting for Durbar to open in Srinagar after which they would seek payment of pending installments and Medical allowance as well, sources further said. |
