Azad's activeness in state politics gives sleepless nights to opponents as well as coalition partners | | | ET Report JAMMU, Apr 27: Even before declaration of the results of Lok Sabha elections, activeness of Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad in the state politics has given sleepless nights not only to his detractors in the Congress but also to coalition partners National Conference. Keeping in view the prevailing situation in the country, one thing is clear that Congress is not going to form Government at Delhi after the Lok Sabha elections so Ghulam Nabi Azad has to play greater role in state politics. Whatsoever may be the results of Udhampur-Doda Lok Sabha seat, Azad's role in the state politics would remain a dominating and he is likely to be Chief Ministerial candidate of Congress party in coming Assembly elections. Source close to Azad said that the Union Minister has already given hints that his next target would be Assembly elections so he has already started ground work in this regard. "Decision of Azad to contest Lok Sabha elections was aimed at consolidating Congress's position on 17 Assembly segment which fall under Udhampur-Doda-Kathua Lok Sabha seats", source said. As reported earlier Azad has directed his supporters to intensify their activities in their respective areas. Azad loyalists have started touring different areas of Jammu region to strengthen the party. They have directed by this leader to convene a meeting of party workers at different places. Azad's loyalists claimed that the Union Minister's decision to contest Lok Sabha election indicated that he (Azad) was keen to play greater role in Jammu and Kashmir politics in the days to come. Both opponents and partners of Congress are very much aware that Azad has capacity to revive Congress in Jammu and Kashmir and he has proved this in recently held elections of Udhampur-Doda Lok Sabha seats where he as a candidate strongly faced Tsunami of Modi in this region. |
