Now Aga's cavalcade greeted with stones | | | Shakeel A Khan BUDGAM, Apr 27: Giving vent to their feelings, angry people are continuing their attacks against National Conference Ministers and legislators. After Minister for Higher Education, Akbar Lone, MLA Budgam, Aga Syed Ruhullah tasted the anger of the people. Reports said that cavalcade of MLA Budgam Aga Syed Ruhullah, was attacked by stone pelting youth during a road show at Chak-e-Ishardas, disturbing the normal life in the area. As soon as the National Conference cavalcade reached Chak-e-Ishardas, a village in this district, it came under heavy stone pelting. A group of people mostly consisting of youth threw stones on the cavalcade of Ruhullah and other NC workers. Such was the impact of the stone pelting that the security personnel accompanying the cavalcade fired some shots in the air. The situation became very tense and people ran for their safety. The shopkeepers downed their shutters and the youth fled the village fearing backlash from the police. The cavalcade was on way to Magam where an election rally was held later in the day with the same being addressed by National Conference President, Dr. Farooq Abdullah. After tasting the anger of people the NC supporters under the security cover damaged the window panes of many houses turning the road show into a nightmare for the villagers. The action from NC workers was objected by the locals and there were minor group clashes in the village. Reports also said that this cavalcade was attacked at Chattabugh village. In fact the road show party was not allowed to settle down anywhere during the day nor could the MLA made any speech. The people of Budgam villages are quite upset with the performance of Ruhullah and this became evident today. It would be in place to mention here that National Conference leaders have been facing the wrath of the people during all its election rallies across the Valley especially in all major towns. The Budgam district has been relatively calm as compared to other districts of the Valley. But here too, the election hasn't generated the heat among the people because the leaders have failed to deliver. The campaigning on the penultimate day for Srinagar-Budgam Lok Sabha seat proved to be disappointing for NC as the day was marked by the violence with grenade attacks taking place at Magam and Srinagar leaving some people injured. |
