Avinash Azad JAMMU, Apr 27: With NC led coalition Government in the state entering the last semester of its six year term, it has faltered in fulfilling its commitment to set up fast track courts in the state to deliver speedy justice to the people. The lackadaisical attitude of the Government has diminished peoples' trust in the rule of law besides piling up lakhs of pending cases in different courts. Sources told Early Times that 2, 76,458 criminal and civil cases were pending in High Court and Subordinate courts. "About 93038 cases in state High Court while 1, 83420 cases are pending with subordinate courts", sources said, adding that there were no fast track court in J&K. "There are no separate fast track courts in the state except for the five existing regular courts of Additional District and Sessions Judge, which were earmarked as Fast Track courts by High Court to deal with crime against women cases including rape, domestic violence and other crime against women for the districts of Anantnag, Baramulla, Jammu, Kulgam, Kupwara, Pulwama, Rajouri and Srinagar", sources said, adding that High Court's proposal for creating fast track courts was lying before the Government. "A proposal has been received from the High Court regarding creation of eight fast track courts of the rank of District and Sessions Judge and 10 fast track court of the of rank of Civil Judge Senior Division. The matter is Government's under consideration but no decision has been made for the creation of fast track courts", sources maintained. "The State Government should make available the benches of High Court at remote places other than capital cities", they opined. It is pertinent to mention here that the Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah has made lot of promise including timely justice to every citizen of state, but he never bothers to materialize his commitment. |
