Nervous NC pleading Cong to retain alliance
5/12/2014 11:06:09 PM

Early Times Report
JAMMU, May 12: The nervous National Conference is making desperate efforts to ensure that NC-Congress alliance doesn't end. The senior leadership of the party has been convincing the Congress high command that snapping ties with the NC would be political suicidal for the party. The Congress high command has though told NC that it will take decision only after consulting the state leadership.
According to the sources, the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, who was away from the state since May 6, even a day before the polling, had a meeting with the Congress vice-president Omar Abdullah in the Delhi, the sources said that Omar tried to convince Rahul against snapping ties.
Source said Rahul Gandhi had not given any categorical approval to the demand of the Omar Abdullah.
The nervousness stems from the fact that NC is likely to be the biggest losers in the Parliamentary elections. The Congress is likely to suffer reverses, though it feels that it is mainly on account of its ties with the NC .
The reports suggest that such has been division in the two parties that many Congress workers have not supported the NC candidates in the Kashmir division and had rather preferred to go with the PDP. Reports suggest that Congress workers and voters in the Kashmir are angry over second class treatment meted out to them by the NC and has thus developed soft corner for the PDP.
According to intelligence reports, the biggest surprise would be PDP which could possibly win at least two seats and is likely to move up its tally in the forthcoming Parliamentary elections.
According to sources, the state leadership of the Congress is of the view and has communicated to the party high command that also, that switching ties with the PDP would be in the interest of the party. It had also suggested that going by the NC which would be facing massive anti-incumbency in the Parliamentary polls would be political suicidal for the party. The party had in the past already sent feelers to the PDP which had decided to take decision after Parliamentary elections.
